Many people are going green and using reusable shopping bags. In fact, some stores even give you a discount for bringing your own bags! As we approach Earth Day and think about conserving our planet, remember to take care of your reusable bags too.
Tips for reusable bag care:
- Make sure to wash your reusable bags on occasion. Think about all of the items you place in the bags and where you set the bags down. The bags can become breading grounds for bacteria! Cloth bags can be easily washed in the washing machine.
- Request a plastic bag for meat products. Since meat packages can leak juices which can contaminate other food, place meat in a disposable bag for transport. If you don’t want to use a disposable bag, mark one bag only for meat products and then make sure you wash it.
- Don’t use your reusable grocery bags for transporting other items such as books and clothing. Keep one set just for grocery items.
