So all of you regular readers know by now that I am on a health kick! I have been craving my homemade dill dip recipe but it is full of calories and fat. Not to mention, when I make it I can’t help but eat the whole bowl! I had read that you could substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream so this became my try something new this week!
Since Greek Yogurt is white and thick, it looks very similar to sour cream. Hubby actually thought I made the “real” deal dip recipe. Greek Yogurt has 0 grams of fat compared to 4.5 grams of fat in 3 tablespoons of lowfat sour cream. That same 3 tablespoons of sour cream is about 60 calories compared to 24 calories for the Greek Yogurt.
So how was the taste?
Pretty good! I noticed the dip was a tad tangier but it was good. Hubby thought the dill flavor was stronger than usual and that could be that I just added too much. I will be using Greek Yogurt a lot more. Next up is trying it in cooking!
Have you tried anything new this week?

WE use Greek yogurt as sour cream on potatoes, taco salad, dips, & more! Love it! We use it in smoothies too! My husband doesn’t eat either/or so Sophia & I just devour all of it. IT is a bit tangier but we love it……..I use it in the yogurt muffins too!
Hi Litsa,
I should have known that you would use Greek Yogurt! What brand is your favorite? Does it make a difference? Thanks!
I make pizza using whole wheat pita bread. I have started to add spinach as a topping.
I also use yoghurt to replace sour cream – on baked potatoes or swirled in soup at the table. One of my weaknesses, when I need comfort food, is packaged macaroni and cheese. I use yoghurt instead of milk and butter.
Wow! Thanks for all of the great tips! I will have to try yogurt instead of milk in the mac & cheese for my boys!
