Strength training is vital for our overall health. It’s more than “mirror muscles” so to speak!?! Indeed training to strengthen muscles begins below the surface—-what we put in our mouths, how we move our bodies, how long we sit each day, how hard we push our bodies to try something new….all of these items encompass challenging ourselves to grow stronger but beyond the terms of working out! We are strongest when we’ve embraced strength training to carry us through life—-proper posture, chasing after our children or carrying them when they are hurt, longer longevity in our workouts, etc.
Now that we are thinking different about strength training, how do we get stronger!?! The strategies listed below may just help you:
1. Strike a Pose: Yoga and Pilates will help you find Warrior poses that you can do anywhere in minutes a day to help strengthen your body—beginning with your core!
2. Fuel Your Moves: Nutrients are needed for building muscles. Pre-workout snacks are a must.
3. Focus on Form: You have to listen to your body when you are strength training. Less is more if your body is saying stop. There’s always later or tomorrow. Push through reps if your body is with you!
