I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
Social media is a part of normal everyday life for many people. We love to share special moments, funny events, family photos, achievements and so much more. Although my children are too young to have social media accounts of their own, I want to teach them at an early age that social media should be used for positive purposes. Once a photo hits the social media space, it is out there for good.
National PTA has partnered with LifeLock in the Share Awesome campaign to promote online safety and good digital citizenship. The goal is to use social media outlets and networks to promote positive and safe-decision making when it comes to digital media. In fact the same life skills to be safe and positive offline should be the same as online. We need to understand that online is REAL life and the digital media needs to be used in a safe manner.
When posting to social media outlets, I try to focus on the positive moments in my families life! It’s always fun sharing the awesome things we have accomplished or the fun we have as a family! Of course, I don’t want to portray that life is always rosy either. When we have those rough moments in life, it’s nice to know that we can reach out to friends online for support. Even just an encouraging word can turn a bad day into something more positive.
To spread positive digital media, National PTA and Lifelock are having a contest! The #ShareAwesome contest invites social media users to share a smart and safe decision, uplifting accomplishment, or positive action for the good of others using hashtag #ShareAwesome on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Students who enter a photo by November 30, 2014 will be eligible to win fantastic prizes, including tablets and a $2,500 scholarship! Visit ShareAwesomeNow.org to learn more.
Snap a photo of an awesome moment in your day and share it on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the #ShareAwesome hashtag!
Students who enter the #ShareAwesome contest between September 15 – November 30, 2014 will have a chance to win fantastic prizes, including tablets and a $2,500 scholarship!
