Save Money on Shampoo: Rinse & Repeat

Have you ever noticed that the directions on many shampoo bottles tell you to wash, rinse and then repeat? A few years ago I started actually following the directions on the bottle and I actually use less shampoo. Yes, less shampoo and I wash twice!

Here is how it works, pour about a quarter size of shampoo into your hand. Apply to your hair. You will notice that the shampoo doesn’t lather up that well. The first wash is just to cut down on the oily residue. Rinse the shampoo out. Repeat the process and continue to only use a quarter size amount of shampoo. This time you will notice the shampoo lathers up nicely.

So instead of using a a whole handful of shampoo, try using just two quarter size amounts. You can also put your shampoo into a pump bottle to cut back on the amount being dispensed.

Note that if you have really dry hair, you might not want to wash your hair twice. For my oily hair this works really well!

  1. Thanks – I’ll try this. I’ve noticed recently that my hair seems more oily than in the past.
