Last weekend we had the opportunity to take our boys to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia for the first time. We plotted out a surprise trip which we actually pulled off! I have a really hard time keeping secrets from them so it was hard for me not to blurt out where we where going! The day started out a bit rainy so we were a bit concerned but it ended up being the perfect day to attend! The temperature was great for walking around all day and the it was not overly crowded.

busch gardens grounds

The first thing we noticed about Busch Gardens is how beautiful the grounds are. There are flowers and gardens everywhere. It is a very clean park as well.

Our boys are ages 6 and 7 so we went straight for the height measuring stations. Each boy was banded with a colored bracelet that helped identify what rides they could go on. We also received a piece of paper that had a list of rides that each boys qualified for. This was extremely helpful! I referred to the list all day long as we navigated our way through the different countries in Busch Gardens.

rides

There are rides for young children all the way up to thrilling rides. Capt. M was able to ride a couple of the more thrilling rides this year. He eagerly hopped on the Mach Tower with daddy. I, on the other hand, was happy to stay right on the ground! There was no time for Capt. M to change his mind as he hopped right on the ride! Off they went and down they came with a priceless look of shock on Capt. M’s face!

Busch Gardens also has numerous shows throughout the day. We loved the More Pet Shenanigans show! It is amazing how well they can train these adopted animals! From a rat to dogs to cats and pot belly pigs, they all put on a great show. We also enjoyed the show Entwined: Tales of Good & Grimm during a late lunch. It was a dancing, singing and acrobatic performance that encompassed many familiar fairy tale stories! Very entertaining for the whole family!

forest of fun

My boys favorite part of the park was the water rides. We went on three water rides and the kids were all smiles. We did wait until the end of the day for these rides knowing that we had a change of clothes int he car. Since the boys were already soaked from the rides, we let them play in the sprinkler park at Sesame Street Forest of Fun. They had an absolute blast!

star

This summer Busch Gardens is also featuring Star Spangled Nights. The park is decked out in red, white and blue! Each evening through August 10th, there is a fireworks show at 9:30 pm.

Since our boys enjoyed the water events so much, we plan to try out Water Country in a few weeks! An end of summer celebration!
