Back in January I wrote a post about the changes in coupon barcodes. You have probably noticed that coupons in the Sunday paper and from Coupons.com now only have one barcode. Although stores are supposed to be up to date on the new registers, it seems that some people are still having problems.

Even though it only has one barcode, it is a legit coupon! I have had a couple of emails from readers stating some store employees seem to think these are fake coupons. They are real and legit. This just means that the employee has not been trained properly on the new barcodes.

If the coupons are not scanning that means the registers are not up to date. And they are supposed to be by now.

If you have an issue with your coupons, always ask for the manager on duty. Stay calm and explain that these are legit coupons. If they still give you a hard time, don’t purchase your items. Pick up the phone and call corporate.

I would love to hear from you! Have you had issues with the new barcode?

  1. I have trouble.. at Safeway. super annoying!

  2. i had trouble with the chex mix coupons that i printed from coupon network. they had the single, new barcode & would not scan at all. she was nice enough to manually enter them, but it is frustrating to know that the coupon is legit, but still won’t scan.

Thank you for posting this because as I am new to coupling this issue just recently cost me a pretty good deal on baby products at Walgreens. they said the coupons wouldn’t scan because they didn’t have the second bar code and that I had printed fradulent coupons. Now I know what to say and do next time it happens.
