“Mommy, can we make reindeer food!”
Oh! The many little morsels of information that children store in their brains from season to season. You like me (Litsa) may have to have a few added moments to process what they might mean. Now that my daughter is 6.5, I ask a question and she fills me in with ALL the details that I need.
Yes. We can make reindeer food!
Last year, we made reindeer food with friends at a friend’s home. My daughter and I gathered all the materials and created little baggies of food for the night before Christmas. Then, we wrote about it in our journal.
This year, we’ll do the same—–we’ll create new baggies of reindeer food with our new friends around our kitchen table and then we’ll write about it. We’ll tuck our little gifts of food for Santa’s reindeer away for another week……
…..and then, sprinkle it among the front lawn on Christmas Eve so Santa can see where to land his sleigh and hungry reindeer!
(Journaling Tip: This year for our journal entry, I will allow my daughter to write her own story about how the reindeer will react when they find their trail of food. Inventive spelling and personal narratives that trail on into imaginative lands are allowed.)
