Leaves, leaves everywhere! Although leaves are beautiful in the Fall, they are sure a pain to clean up. When raking leaves this fall don’t forget to use an ergonomic rake with a bend in its handle to avoid back pain. Additionally, a foam-cushioned grip will help minimize blisters and wrist injuries—as will gloves. You may even want to try an expandable rake for clearing large areas, as well as squeezing between structures. Once you have the right tools, follow these leaves to stay on top of raking this fall.
Check the weather. Don’t rake leaves if it has rained recently—wet foliage is heavy. If you need to work when it’s windy, rake in the same direction as the breeze.
Plan your path. Rake popular areas (e.g., walkways and around the swing set) regularly. Clear the rest of the space after all the leaves have fallen around November.
Simplify cleanup. Small piles of leaves can easily be removed without straining your muscles. Even better: Rake leaves onto a tarp for one-step disposal.
What other ‘raking rules’ do you follow for well-managed yard throughout the fall season?
