As parents we have the challenge of knowing when—–don’t you love it!?! When should I put my child(ren) to bed? What should I feed her/him/them for breakfast? Should I remove ALL processed foods for our diet(s) at home? When should we stay home? Or visit friends/family for meals/playdates?

Or maybe event bigger WHEN questions……..When should I pierce my little girl’s ears? When do I allow a sleepover? When will she have her own cell phone? When do I stop requiring afternoon naps? When…….

Oh! So you know those lingering WhEn questions never end!?! They resonate in my heart and mind as a mother—–and I’m smart enough to know that the grass is not greener on the other side! We are in this game of WHEN together. Sometimes we want to hide our eyes in our hands and just weep. Sometimes we have the joy in our step because we made the right decision. Other times it really doesn’t matter…..

  • You can allow your five year old to paint her fingernails blue alone because she wants too!
  • You can let your child sleep in late on a Saturday.
  • You can allow your child to wear a tutu to soccer practice.
  • You can let your child stay up to ten o’clock licking icing off of strawberry cupcakes that her Daddy brought in from his work trip to Kentucky.

What’s the correct answer to our “when” questions!?! The answer is YOU. What are you comfortable with yourself as a mom….as a family!?! Listen to the expert, your inner still voice. Sometimes it’s only a whisper. Other times it’s a ROAR but most of the time it’s right on TARGET!

When? When we listen.

  1. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I second guess myself all too often and this is such a great reminder that I might have a clue of what I’m doing. And I received it on a day of struggle that made it resonate that much better. Thank you! I really enjoy all your other posts, too.
