Have you visited your local Boys & Girls Club recently? This week is your opportunity to “Open the Door and Take the Tour” with National Boys & Girls Club Week. Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide teach kids core values and skills to help them fully succeed in life. These are really great programs for children who need encouragement, confidence and guidance.

More than 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs opened their doors to serve millions of kids across the nation and on military installations overseas by offering a place for them to grow and have a great future. National Boys & Girls Club Week was established to celebrate the invaluable service that Clubs bring to communities and to highlight why great futures start at Boys & Girls Clubs. Clubs provide caring guidance and fun, engaging programs that help kids: do well in school, give back to their communities and choose healthy lifestyles.

Boys & Girls Clubs create a fun and safe environment. I also like the fact that they teach children to do volunteer work. It’s so important to teach children to give back to the community that is supporting them! Speaking of volunteer, the Boys & Girls Clubs are always looking for adult volunteers to mentor or tutor the children. Contact your local club for more information.

The schedule for this year’s celebration includes the following:

•         Monday, April 8 – Open the door to education.
•         Tuesday, April 9 – Open the door to technology.
•         Wednesday, April 10 – Open the door to character and citizenship.
•         Thursday, April 11 – Open the door to healthy lifestyles.
•         Friday, April 12 – Open the door. Take the tour.

Find a local Boys & Girls Club by entering your zipcode over on the BGCA.org site. Plus you can Open the Door and take a Virtual Tour this week if you are unable to physically visit.
