I’ve shared in the past that I (Litsa) love these little magazine tidbits! Here’s one that made my list from Weight Watchers Magazine (July/August 2014):

Mood Boost: Next time you feel blue, think GREEN: In a preliminary study of clinically depressed adults, half of those who participated in a six-week gardening program reported an upswing in mood and a decrease in depression symptoms. While the study doesn’t explain why, use the findings as an excuse to get outside and play in the dirt!”

Well, it’s getting a little ‘less green’ in my area of the country (West Tennessee) with the fall foliage taking center stage—and the cloudy, cold days are settling in so I’m a little skeptical about getting out to play in the dirt! But I am thinking, GREEN…..I am personally thinking about green Christmas trees lighting up our home in twinkling lights….I’m thinking about which green juices to incorporate into my week of meal planning…..and that I should create spinach salads for lunch fuel….I’m sporting green attire when I can….or sparkly green ear-rings that give my autumn outfits a little dazzle! And if it is not too, too cold, I venture outdoors to walk….the fresh air alone is a mood booster…and there’s always something green to see while walking outdoors….a holly tree, an evergreen, someone’s Christmas tree peeking at me, huge green ferns that are still immaculate…….don’t forget to bring green plants indoors or to try your hand at something green this season like ornamental kale…and if your geraniums are still in bloom, don’t forget to save them for next spring/summer too!

There’s always a GREEN thought that boosts my mood! Staying within the monthly budget and negating debt throughout the holiday season is a bit stressful, I agree but taking time to think through the holiday spending is important too.

Think GREEN.

And pencil in sunny, warm fall day’s to play in that dirt—-there’s always hosta to cut back, hydrangeas to trim, and more as winter nears but spring promises to reappear.

Perspective matters—GREENER lands greet helping hands! Get the family involved and keep the fun parallel to thinking GREEN!
