Life With Boys: Meanest Mom Ever

“You are the meanest mom ever!”

Okay moms, how many times have you heard that statement?

Or how about, “I don’t like you anymore!”

I’m raising both of my hands over here. It’s with great heartbreak that I have heard both of these statements recently from both of my boys. Of course both times these statements were articulated by the offender, they were sitting in timeout.

Capt. M told me I was the meanest mom ever when we were visiting my mom in California a few weeks ago. My mom assured me that he didn’t really mean what he was saying and that many kids say such things- even me apparently when I was young!

No matter if they mean it or not, it sure hurts a momma’s heart to hear those words. Thankfully those words were short lived. About ten minutes after their punishments I was greeted with sorry faces and big hugs.

When my boys say such statements I first ignore it until they calm down. Once they are calm (when they are coming for their hug), I explain that they really hurt my feelings. And the sweetest words I hear from Capt. M every night before bed is “I love you so, so, so much mommy!” Yep, with that many “so’s” each night!

I would love to hear how you handle these situations. Do your children call you the meanest mom ever?
