A couple of weeks ago we took our boys to Lego Kids Fest. Our boys love to play with Lego’s so we figured this would be a great indoor cold weather activity. The tickets were extremely expensive though- $18 for kids and $20 for adults. Thus I thought I would give you our input on the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Lego Statues of Favorite Characters: There were tons of life size statues of characters such as Darth Maul, Darth Vader, Woody from Toy Story, Jack Sparrow, Dinosaurs and so much more. The boys loved walking around looking at all of the amazing details to these characters.
- Hands On: There were several Lego tables set up throughout the convention center allowing the kids to have hands on activities. One thing we all enjoyed was building a house to add to the Lego city above!
- Different Lego Collections: The variety of Lego’s to look at and play with was amazing. We really enjoyed seeing different Lego parts that we do not own.
Cons:
- Crowded: All five sessions in Richmond were sold out. It was pretty crowded in the convention center making it hard to keep track of my excited, fast moving boys!
- Signups: There were some workshops and hand on activities that required signups. I was not aware of this. Apparently you have to signup as soon as the doors open since the sessions are filled immediately. I had a couple of disappointed boys who wanted to do an activity that was already full.
- Overwhelming: We spent 2.5 hours at the Lego Fest. Maybe it was our boys ages (4 and 6), but I could tell they were starting to get overwhelmed with the sights, sounds and crowd. Plus they were hungry!
- Nothing to Take Home: It would have been nice to have a Lego pack to take home based on the price of our ticket. Even a small package would have been nice!
I am glad that we took the boys and they were happy with the experience. However, I doubt we will attend Lego Kids Fest again. It’s nice to do once but for the price it is not worth a return trip in my opinion.
I would love to hear your opinion on Lego Kids Fest if you have attended!

I totally agree with you on all your points. We too went in Richmond with a boy, 9, and girl, 15. I chalked up the expense as “an experience” they will most likely not forget. I also believe a small token (other than the LEGO free publication and posters, which we did take away) would have made me a happier camper!
Hi Michelle,
I am glad to hear you agree about the Lego Kids Fest! I totally missed the free poster! It was a great experience for my boys and they play with legos more now!
