I (Litsa) don’t need a holiday to find myself busy in the kitchen! I am ALWAYS in our family’s kitchen. I’m busy unloading the dishwasher, washing dishes by hand, making coffee, cooking, eating, drinking, blogging…..”Mommy, where are you!?!” I only hear this question if I happen to leave the kitchen!?!
Our kitchen is also the place where crafts happen—-and homework is completed. Therefore there are always children’s chores waiting to take place. But I only have ONE—only one child that is! She’s sassy and thinks that the chores are busy work. “Mom, why do I have to do everything!?!” But if I ask her what she’d like to help me accomplish or when I ask nicely, “Would you mind helping me unloading the dishwasher!?!” instead of telling her…..
I end up having a kitchen helper. So whether you are preparing for a feast this month or you just need a lending hand in the kitchen see if one of your children would enjoy:
- Tearing up lettuce for a salad or washing it
- Peeling apples, potatoes, carrots or oranges
- Arranging cheese and crackers
- Taking out the trash and/or putting in a new garbage bag
- Setting the table
- Filling glasses with ice from the dispenser
- Folding napkins
Even little breaks in our kitchen are minute gifts—–and if you listen to the noise of the kitchen and let the world’s voices drown out, you just might find that what your little kitchen helpers are saying and doing are your daily morsels of gratitude.
Thankful for Kitchen Chores!
