At least six hydrangea plants grace our home’s southern property in the heart of our West Tennessee town! Their blooms are always striking and a favorite of mine. I (Litsa) love hydrangeas in every color–pink, blue, purple, white and more! They are easy to maintain year after year. Additionally, they are easy to spread along our flowerbeds by simply placing a brick on the stem of the hydrangea against the soil. Perfection—-more hydrangeas next year! The blooms are perfect on the fireplace in crystal vases and/or on our end tables! However, I can’t seem to get enough out of these blooming beauties! Thus, I have made a decision to extend their summer blooms with more plants for our home.
Four more hydrangea plants are waiting to be placed in our flowerbeds prior to summer’s hot, humid season. We’ll make sure that the potting holes are perfect for these new plants that we’re adding to our flower beds. Additionally, we will make sure that we water these hydrangeas daily when there’s no rain in the forecast. However, new plants are tricky sometimes. Thus, we have saved our receipt from Lowe’s Home Improvement store. They guarantee new plants to survive—–a guarantee that we will enjoy having since each plant is around $17.
Hydrangeas are a unique flowering plant in that you can change the color of the blooms based on the pH of the soil! Blue hydrangeas are made with an acidic soil and pink with a more alkaline soil! Apply a sulfur based soil product for acidity and a lime based produce for alkaline. But be cautious when changing the soil pH – you don’t want to alter it too much if you have other plants around.
Over the course of the years, we hope to expand these southern favorites all around our yard’s spaciousness. Beyond their endless summer blooms, their size is captivating as they grow. They are easily spotted from across the street and maintain easy care from their owners.
Endless hydrangea blooms for us….
What summer blooms are you enjoying this season?
