My boys love crafts! When I told Capt. M that I was staying home with him on Friday his first request was to do crafts. I had been saving paper towel and bath tissue cardboard tubes for awhile. A did a quick search and found a rocket made from cardboard.
Supplies Needed
Paper Towel Cardboard Tubes
Paint
Glue
Tape
Construction Paper
Scissors
Cardboard
The first thing you want your kids to do is paint the cardboard tube. While the kids are painting, make the fins for the tube. I used cardboard from a soda 12 pack. I made one and then used that as a template for the others. You want 3 fins per rocket.
When the tubes are dry, make 3 slits of equal distance on one end of the tube. Just take scissors and make a simple snip so that the fin can slide into place. Apply a dab of glue to the fin and slide it into the slit. My boys couldn’t wait for the glue to dry so I used tape for the fins!
For the cone, take a piece of construction paper and roll into a cone shape. I loosely rolled the paper and placed on top of the tube to measure. Once I found the correct width, I placed a piece of tape on the construction paper seam to keep the correct shape. I then trimmed the bottom of the paper to make an even edge.
Place glue around the border of the end of the tube and apply the cone.
My boys had a blast with their rockets! The best part is that they really do fly pretty well through the air. Capt. M was able to makes his spin!
Make sure you check out the rest of my easy crafts!
