Even when kids are sick they need to be entertained. My boys have been sick all week. Being couped up in the house gets old really quick and television entertainment only lasts for so long. One of our issues this week is that the boys have had on again and off again fevers. As soon as we think they are over the hump with this illness, one of them spikes another high fever. Keeping a 2 year old and a 4 year old calm and entertained is tough!
Here are some things we have done this week:
- Build a fort in the living room and watch an old movie. Some how watching a movie from a fort makes it better!
- Arts and crafts are always a big hit. My boys have painted, made cards and played with play dough this week.
- Let the kids use your digital camera. Of course this depends on how nice of a camera you have! I let my boys take some pictures of each other, the house and me. Capt. M took the above picture of Mr. B- I was impressed with the shot!
- Puzzles and board games. To change things up, make new rules for the board games. Be creative and come up with a new game.
- Go for a drive. Sometimes a change in scenery is needed. Taking a little drive should do the trick.
- Take a swim in the bath tub. Since my boys had fevers, they took several baths this week. It was all about play instead of washing!
- Let the kids play with your hair. I let my boys put clips in my hair and brush it. It was pampering for me and fun for them. If you have girls, you could paint nails too! (Yes, this another picture from Capt. M!)
- Freeze some fruit like blueberries and grapes. We didn’t have popsicles on hand but frozen blueberries tasted great! We also have frozen orange juice and gatorade in ice cube trays. the kids think it is a treat but it actually helps keep them hydrated.
What are your tips for entertaining the kids when they are sick?
