Being a mom is one of the hardest jobs at the same time it is one of the most rewarding. I have shared with you before that I am not a superhero mom. I am just a human mom full of flaws but learning and growing all of the time. Now that I have children of my own, I appreciate my mom so much more. My mom is a true hero.

The funny thing about life is that you can’t plan it. My mom had a vision of being a stay at home mom but divorce and two young kids made that just a dream. Bad decisions and a second divorce led to a time when we were very poor. The good news was my mom never let on that we were poor! It wasn’t until I was much older that I came to understand the circumstances. My mom made sure that we never went hungry. Looking back now I know why she was so thin- she always made sure we had enough food even though that meant she didn’t.

I learned most of my thriftiness from my mom who taught me to never pay full price. My mom was also very creative when it came to earning or saving money. We collected aluminum cans and recycled them to earn money. We also held yard sales on a regular basis to raise funds. I can also recall mom squeezing ketchup from the little packets you get at a fast food place into a large ketchup bottle! Nothing was wasted. Although we had many tough years my mom always kept a positive outlook and was a hard worker. I am very proud of where we all are today compared to those years when I was in elementary school.

My mom is my hero!
