It’s 8:25 a.m. while I’m sitting at my computer attacking my to do list. I (Litsa) rolled out of bed at 6:11 a.m. and I’m still finishing the last few sips of my coffee (although I might venture towards the coffee machine for one more fresh, warm brew since the thermostat is still turned down low—excuses, excuses for coffee—ALWAYS)! My husband left for work around 6:40 a.m. and our little girl is on a summer sleep schedule——-still sleeping. So maybe happier does happen in the morning!?! Quietness surrounds me as I hear the cars outside zooming by and the refrigerator humming———and I’m reflecting: Do early risers reap the most rewards?
If you asked me this question as a teenager or as a young adult, I’d turn over and roll back under the covers but as a working young adult and as a stay-at-home mom/freelance worker now (aka an older adult), I’d say that early risers do indeed reap the most rewards but not without a little pre-planning (at least for me). My husband wakes up early to enjoy coffee, the news, and quiet time lining out his work day after dozing off the night before with everything on the line. I, on the other hand, prefer to prep the coffee maker, leave the kitchen spotless, make a mini attack list for what I need to get done (even a small task like emptying the dishwasher—focused memos work for me), etc. I also like to open the plantation blinds to allow as much natural light in as possible——–and lunge (lounge, actually) around in my nightgown going about my morning—but movement (exercising outside first thing in the morning is grand too)!
We’re all wired differently but rising early in the morning works for me.
I accomplish more but while I’m reflecting on this stance, it’s also summertime. I don’t have to prep a snack box, a lunch box, a backpack, breakfast for one…………..and get myself ready for work!?! Although I haven’t had to factor in that last phrase yet, I know that our lives are constantly changing. Thus, I’m ready to tackle rethinking bedtime (earlier), choosing to tune out of social media throughout the evening, watching the late night news, etc., banning the snooze button in the morning, prepping ahead…..
Setting my own personal pace for mornings has to align with who I am and what I have to contribute to my family (as it does you). Rethink your morning routines that are heavily impacted by your evening routines. Establish habits and enjoy happier mornings even when life has you running out the door for……
School routines are soon to follow………
Morning happens—-HAPPIER is always invited!
