Generic Brand Prices on the Rise

I am sure you have noticed the prices at the grocery store are on the rise. It seems like it’s been a steady climb. I just read the article Store-brand Food Prices on the Rise over at MSN and I found it interesting.

The articles states that store brands are generally 29% cheaper than National Brands. Although I do buy generic brands, I do find that national brands can be cheaper if you have a good coupon. I do compare pries though and I am not brand loyal.

The article also stated that generic brand food prices have gone up an average of 5.3% over the last year. That’s significant considering many people’s pay checks have not increased by that amount. The average pay raise expected for 2012 is 3%– and I will say there will be many of us that will not even get that.

There are talks that the economy is turning around and that inflation is under control, I am not so sure I believe that. At least not from where I am standing!

I would love to hear your thoughts! Have you noticed generic brands on the rise? Is it harder to stay within your grocery budget?
