When the garden starts producing, it is pure joy! Every time I head to the garden and see fruit and vegetables ready to pick, a surge of happiness runs through me. It is just so cool to be able to grow your own food!

tomato

We have had a lot of rain and very hot temperatures over the last couple of weeks here in Central Virginia. The result has been huge tomato plants! It’s looking like we will have the best tomato crop so far as long as we can keep the tomato blight from returning.

tomatoes

We’ve already collected three ripe tomatoes from our garden! I think this is the earliest that we have had ripe tomatoes. It looks like some of the cherry tomatoes will ripen this week too.

banana peppers

The banana peppers are also loving the heat! It’s amazing how fast they grow. Of course you can see the weeds growing too. We have been so busy with baseball and karate that I have had little time to pull weeds. Plus they just grow so darn quick!

beans berries

The green beans are coming along too. My boys love to eat raw green beans and I do too! Love the crunch! This year our blueberry bushes produced about three handfuls of blueberries. Next year should be great for blueberries as the bushes will be three year old. Blackberries are coming in strong too.

We had a very short snap pea season since the weather turned so hot. I’m really bummer about that since we love peas! I’m going to attempt to plant some for Fall this year.

The squash and cucumber plants have yet to produce. It’s amazing how some things are growing so well while others are slow. Obviously we are missing something in the soil for cucumbers and squash!

So how is your garden growing?
