Tomato Ripening

The jewel of the garden is starting to ripen! Yes, what every vegetable gardener waits for are those beautiful tomatoes. A store bought tomato just doesn’t compare to a vine ripened, home grown tomato!

Since our Spring was rather cool here in central Virginia, we had a really slow start to the garden. In years past, we have harvested tomatoes by now. However, we are just starting to see the large tomatoes turn pinky orange. We have been picking a few grape tomatoes from our volunteer tomato plant for a week now. But we are ready for some big tomatoes!

Now the close watch begins. We have squirrels that have their eye on these garden jewels!
