Garden Update: Pumpkin & Lots of Peppers

I know it’s been several weeks since I have had a garden update. With all of the travel I have done, I have had little time to work in the garden! Yesterday hubby helped me pull weeds- and there was a lot!

The tomato bushes are doing poorly. Several have died int he last couple of weeks. We have a drip system so even with the hot weather and no rain, they are getting plenty of water. Maybe it’s too much water? Gardening is always trial and error!

We have had great success with peppers this year. We have an abundance of bell peppers, hot peppers and banana peppers. Today I am going to try my hand at canning banana pepper rings. We love banana pepper rings on sandwiches and I am excited to try to make these ourselves! I was hoping to make salsa with the hot peppers but since the tomatoes are non-existent, I may try some hot pepper jelly.

The cucumbers and yellow squash are still doing well. Although, we are constantly battling squash bugs! Speaking of squash, we also picked our first pumpkin this weekend! I planted pie pumpkin seeds in hopes of lots of small pumpkins for pumpkin puree. This little guy is pretty small but we are happy to have it.

We also had a little surprise next to the cabbage. I dug out two small potatoes which must have sprouted from last years crop that I missed. We didn’t plant potatoes this year so this was a nice surprise!

How is your garden growing? Are you going to plant anything for the fall?
