Potato Plants

If you ever wondered what potato plants look like, here you go! My potato plants have really taken off. We had to mound up the dirt around them last weekend. Since then, they have grown another couple inches- yes inches. I hope this is a good sign of tubers developing underneath!

I am watching the lettuce closely as we have very warm weather. I have cut most of it but still have a couple heads in the garden. Lettuce does not like warm weather. What I am watching for is for the lettuce to bolt. What is bolting? When the center bloom ascends in the lettuce head. Bolting is bad because it makes the lettuce bitter. My spinach bolted very early- I am not sure why.

My tomatoes, peppers, blackberries and sweet peas have flowers on them! We actually have one itty bitty sweet pea on the vine this morning. It looks like the squash will be flowering in the next few days.

I can’t wait until we can harvest yummy goodies from our garden! If you are still looking to plant, remember Burpee has some coupon codes that are valid until 5/31/11.
