A few weeks ago I signed up for a Foam Glow 5K race with some friends. I thought it would be a fun way to get some exercise with friends. The idea is to run or walk a 5k while getting blasted with glow in the dark foam throughout the course. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled in our area. I decided to write about Foam Glow and their company 1N3, LLC due to the fact that they refuse to give a refund for my registration fee.
When Foam Glow sent the email saying they are postponing the August 22nd race, I immediately sent an email asking for a refund. They replied saying the are a no refund company. They say that the race is not cancelled, just postponed although they don’t have a future date for the Richmond event. So, they cancelled the August 22nd run, don’t haveĀ new date setup and are refusing to give a refund. I find this unacceptable and poor business.
Upon further research, I found that 1N3, LLC has done this before. They operate the Blacklight Run and the Ultra Violet World run as well. When I posted my frustration to my personal facebook page, I had a friend comment that this same company had pulled this stunt last year in our area. I also found numerous complaints on the BBB site. There was an event facebook page created for the Foam Glow 5K in Richmond which hasn’t been taken down by the company yet. On that page I found additional complaints of cancelling events.
So how are they still in business?
The waiver. Yes, the waiver they have you sign when completing the registration has a line in there that states they have the right to change the date and not offer a refund. I admit I didn’t read the fine print. Definitely my error there. However, I still think it’s wrong that a company is allowed to do that. I have little faith that they will actually setup a new date for this run. In my opinion, that’s fraud. Oh and their reason for postponing was “logistical issues” – whatever that means. It has been five days now since they “postponed” the race and not a word on the reschedule date. They have also taken the Richmond event off of their website. Not looking good for Richmond registrants!
My advice?
Be wary of signing up for races with 1N3, LLC. Make sure you read the fine print on all waivers no matter what company you signup with. Also, use a credit card to pay for the events. I was able to dispute the charges with my credit card company when I explained what happened.
Please spread the word about this company!
P.S. – I did try to resolve this issue with Foam Glow privately. With two failed attempts via email, I decided to take this public. I even told them I would!
