No, I am not going to get all preachy on ya!

This is just my account how my family recently started attending church.

I grew up attending church while hubby did not. For the last 15 years that we have known each other, we have only attended church on special occasions. For one, I feel that you don’t need to attend church to believe in God and be religious. Even though I wasn’t attending Sunday service, I still prayed and talked to my children about religion. I have faith and believe in the word of God. The second reason for not attending was hubby. He wasn’t against church but he didn’t feel a need to go since it was never in his routine.

My boys knew about Jesus and God. Capt. M would often refer to God or Jesus in the least expected moments- like when Mr. B used the middle finger or when I was sad about my grandpa dying.

About a month ago, I felt a strong urge to take my boys to church. On Saturday, I announced that we were going to church on Sunday. My boys said “Yes!” and there was no resistance from hubby either.

We dropped the boys off at Sunday school while we attended the church service. Mr. B was a bit hesitant since he didn’t know anyone. However, each week the drop off has gotten easier. I can’t believe how easily we have fell into the routine of attending church! No arguments from any of the males in my house! Hubby even mentioned that the pastor is entertaining and he doesn’t mind the lessons.

One funny moment, the boys are given a verse to memorize each week. A day after attending our first service, Mr. B asked “Mom, where is my Bible curse?”

I started busting out laughing! “Honey it’s called a Bible verse! Not a curse!”

I still feel that to be religious or spiritual, church service is not an absolute necessity. Having faith in Jesus and believing is the most important part. However, I can tell that my family is benefiting from attending. We are lucky to have found a very welcoming church that holds all of our interest. At felt at peace this morning as we sang the old hymn “All is Well With My Soul“.

May your Sunday be blessed!
