Country Life: Leaf and Acorn Cleanup

When you live in the middle of oak trees, autumn cleanup is a dreaded time. Not only do we have a TON of leaves to deal with, there are acorns everywhere. If the acorns are left, that means new trees will sprout which is not something we want to happen. Hubby has been waiting for the lat leaves to fall to start the leaf cleanup process. The time finally came this weekend!

Hubby uses a leaf blower to blast the leaves into the forest and off our grass. To get the acorns up, he needs to rake and then scoop them into the wheel barrel. He found that using a snow shovel was helpful!

As the grass was exposed, our girls (the chickens!) were happy as can be. They were busy looking for delectable bugs!

I cleaned out the leaves from vegetable garden area. We need to apply lime and fertilizer this week. I also tried to remove as many acorns as possible since we don’t need oak trees sprouting in the garden! We love living among the trees but it sure does require a lot of cleanup in the fall!

How about you, are you done with your leaf removal?
