One of our neighbors is raising cattle. Unfortunately one of the momma cows died a few days after giving birth to this sweet girl. The calf requires three bottle feedings a day at this point. Capt. M and Mr. B were thrilled to be able to help out with the feedings!

It still takes this little girl a couple of minutes to realize where the bottle is. But once she gets a taste of the milk, there is no letting go of that bottle! My boys had to grip the bottle with both hands!

In fact once the bottle was gone, she tries to suckle anything she can get her mouth around! Mr. B’s shirt looked appetizing for a minute! Baby calves don’t have teeth yet either. If you stick your finger out, she will suckle on it. We all took our turn with the finger experience. There was a lot of cow slobber going around!

This is one experience my boys won’t forget! When I was about their age, I lived on a cattle ranch for two years. I fondly remember feeding the calves whose mothers passed. It’s a lot of work raising a baby calf, but they are sure cute!
