Hot weather means that reusable water bottles are constantly in use. I don’t leave my house without filling up a water bottle for me and the boys. Many times those water bottles get left in the hot car or in the boys gear bags. Water bottles can be magnets for germs.
Of course I always wash water bottles with hot soapy water. However, every once in awhile I like to disinfect the water bottles – especially when they’ve been in a gear bag for a few days. Even though the water may be clean, it becomes contaminated with contact from mouth and hands. You never know what’s lurking in those bottles!
It’s really simple to disinfect water bottles. Just use bleach and water. Pour 1 tablespoon of bleach into a quart size bottle full of water. Or fill up the sink and add about a cup of bleach. Let the bottles sit for about five minutes. Then thoroughly rinse with water. I like the sink method since I can soak the bottle caps.
If you are looking for a neat water bottle, checkout the Contigo AUTOSEAL Bottle with Storage Compartment. I recently bought these as graduation gifts for two special ladies. They are perfect for the gym or sporting events!
