December is here! It’s just days after Christmas but it’s my birthday—Ashley’s too! She creates all those wonderful recipes for us to sample in our own kitchens (or shares with those of us who live close enough)! Happy Birthday to us! And to you, if you celebrate this birthday date with us….

It’s no wonder that children get so, so, so excited about birthdays! The anticipation of celebrating! What a gift! And the gifts do come no matter how old you are……Mine started early this month! A card from the Edward Jones team…….an email from Swagbucks noting Swagbucks (aka as bucks to cash in for Amazon gift cards)…….a Victoria Secret $10 coupon (free perfume or panties—-hard choice!?!)….$10 from Ann Taylor, my favorite boutique! Last year, I scored a pair of free black capris! Anticipating what I’ll find this year at the stores in Atlanta is a TREAT too! And the fact that I’m 39 and the size 6 Ann Taylor capris are too big—a birthday gift indeed! That means my FREEBIE movements around the house…cleaning, cooking, jumping jacks, leg lifts, and more——-and all those miles I walk……birthday treats! But there’s more….Maggie Moo’s is giving me ice-cream! And McAlister’s is giving me a bite to eat! I love to EAT!
And Starbucks—-yep! I think they’ll have saved a RED cup for me too! They want to TREAT me on my birthday! Not only will I enjoy a drink but I get to browse through all their coffee merchandise at clearance prices! Sweet–coffee birthday!
And the birthday gifts keep coming…..earlier today (12/21/13), my little girl removed the snowballs from her calendar that had passed. She counted down the days until Christmas and then two more for my birthday. As we discussed my birthday gifts, I asked her if she thought about what she’d buy me….if she had asked Daddy to take her shopping or to make something for me with him at his shop…or….I could see little thinking wheels turning but she told me that I was supposed to wrap my own gifts. In the frenzy of the Christmas season….the hustle and bustle of the holidays, sometimes we move about so quickly doing….Santa…elves…cookies…and more but are we teaching……what are we modeling!?! The gifts……Hmm…as I continued to clean, I could hear rustling of papers and more in the playroom. When I walked in to see what was transpiring…….I saw a little girl wrapping a gift. Wrapping paper, tape, scissors….wrapping a coloring page she had colored and folded. What a wonderful early birthday gift to see that our conversation mattered! The gift is under the tree—and she made Daddy one for Christmas too!
