The summer heat is on—-and hopefully your grill is too!?! One seasonal favorite is a homemade burger around here but not without CHEESE!
Does any cheese create the perfect burger or is there a specific cheese!?!
Well, I guess it depends who you ask.
I (Litsa) saw my husband frown over his old-time favorite Kraft cheese. He voiced, “It doesn’t even taste like cheese!” If we looked at the ingredient list, what might we find!?!
Hmmm…..
Cooking Light’s (June 2014) issue featured the best slices for your burgers. Here are their two favorites:
THE FAVORITE is Whole Foods 365 Everyday Value Kosher Cheddar: A ‘classic’ orange cheddar, this sliced cheese melts smoothly and turns creamy on the burger. It’s tangy and slightly sweet, so it can hold its own against a burger’s fat and flavor. 90 calories, 4g saturated fat and 140mg sodium per slice
ALSO GOOD is Boar’s Head Vermont Cheddar Cheese: It might not be the color that some folks expect from cheddar cheese bu this one was the tangiest and truest cheddar we tried. Even when melted, it tastes sharp and sweet with just-right salty kick. 55 calories, 3g saturated fat, and 90mg per slice
If you’re out shopping at Whole Foods or your local health food retailer, look for REAL cheeses that compare to these featured as Cooking Light’s favorites for summer burgers. Take a few minutes to not only price compare but ‘ingredient’ compare cheeses!?! You just might be surprised that the best slices begin and end with whole, natural no additive ingredients!?!
Double cheese, anyone!?!
