It’s easy to get lost in recipes midweek! They are everywhere—-Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, magazines, newspapers—–and somehow they stay piled up on my desk (a.k.a. my kitchen table)—and before I can tame them (prep a dish or toss them), I come across another recipe that is hot off the press (my printer)! Usually those recipes are the ones that are prepared first because if I’m printing it, then I have all the ingredients on hand!
That’s how the story of my apple cake came about……
I scrolled.
I salivated at the picture—the list of ingredients were taking residence in my kitchen. I thought I’d make this apple cake.
My coffee wanted company, a slice of frosted apple cake.
In a bundt pan!?!
Well, the author noted to GREASE the pan well.
And so I did.
Or thought I did!?!
I was preparing this apple cake while I was hungry and in the middle of dinner preparations when I needed the oven for warming pulled pork.
These were my two first mistakes. Add in questions from my daughter and commentary from my husband.
The apple cake wasn’t nearly the kitchen disaster that it could have been since my family was still fed dinner that night but my apple cake did indeed stick to the bundt pan. Luckily, the appearance of the cake didn’t hinder the taste of the cake or the creamy frosting that I forgot to brown.
Following a recipe is perfect for those that love to follow directions and take their time.
I like to eat.
Following directions is hard to do when my brain is already conjuring images of cake and coffee.
I had good intentions.
I did have an opportunity to eat my apple cake piece by piece as it crumbled out of the bundt pan.
No neat slices.
Sometimes we have to allow for kitchen disasters instead of perfect serving slices with pretty scalloped edges.
