The new favorite fruit in our household is the Asian Pear! We actually call it a pear apple because that is what it tastes like. If you have not tried an Asian Pear before try something new this week and pick one up.
Asian Pears are firm when ripe unlike the traditional pear. It is round in shape and has a yellow-brown skin. Asian Pears are sweet and juicy yet crisp. The texture reminds me a bit like jicima. These pears are also very large- my boys usually split one with me taking a nibble too!
This skin is edible but I always peel it because my boys are just picky that way. My buy price for Asian Pears is $0.99/lb. (currently on sale at Kroger!).
