Making Caramel Apples

Since apples are in season it is the perfect time to make caramel apples! My boys and I made caramel apples last weekend and it was sticky but yummy experience!

Caramel Apples

5 Whole Apples
Popsicle or Craft Sticks or Skewers (we used skewers cut in half)
Caramels (14 oz.)
2 Tablespoons Heavy Cream

Wash and dry apples. Remove stems and insert sticks.

Take a piece of waxed paper and spray with cooking spray. This will be the working space!

Unwrap all of the caramels and place in a microwave safe bowl. Add the cream. Microwave for 1 minute. Stir and continue to microwave for an additional minute.

Dip apples in caramel. Use a spoon to place additional caramel for an even coat. Place the caramel apples on the waxed paper. Let the caramel cool for a couple of minutes and then you can roll it into different toppings. When you are done you can wrap the caramel apple in the waxed paper and refrigerate!

Tips

  • Cold apples work better so the caramel sets faster.
  • Let the caramel cool a bit before dipping the apples. The caramel will drip right off if it is too warm.
  • Try different toppings like crushed oreo, nuts and sprinkles.
  • If you don’t have cream you can use water.
