Ten years ago today I was on a highway in California driving to work. I did not turn the television on that morning as I was in a hurry. Two minutes down the road the music on the radio stopped playing. I could tell something was wrong, the DJ didn’t know what to say. He just said “we are trying to get answers for you.”
The DJ took a call and the women on the phone was crying and hysterical. I will never forget that moment as I knew something serious was happening in our country.
I had a 25 minute drive and in that time know one knew what was happening. I can remember dialing my cellphone numerous times trying to reach my dad. He travels via plane a couple times a week and I had no idea if he was on the East or West coast. Although I wasn’t able to reach my dad until hours latter, to my relief he was on the West coast.
I arrived at work, flipped on the television and watched in horror as the second tower fell. It was surreal; almost like a horror movie. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a movie.
I know most of you remember the details of that day. Where you where, the panic, the fear, the unknown and the heartbreak.
Take a moment today to remember those that lost their lives that day. Also remember the rescuers and workers that were on site for months and months after the attack. Some of those people also lost their lives.
So many things changed that day and things will never be the same. One thing is for certain, we will never forget 9/11/01.
