Substitute for Cheesecloth

Last weekend when I was making apple jelly, I needed cheesecloth to strain the apple juice. I could not find cheesecloth at our local store. While I was walking through the store I saw a package of coffee filters and had an ah-hah moment.

I placed a cone shaped paper coffee filter into my canning funnel which fit perfectly in a mason jar. I did have to change the coffee filter several times during the process of straining 4 cups of apple juice. It worked perfectly fine though!

So if you are ever in a pinch for cheesecloth, try a paper coffee filter!
