bananas

Bananas are always present on our counter tops. Every time we make a trip to the grocery store, we buy bananas. They are an easy fast food when someone is hungry in our household. They became a staple for me as a new mom. My little girl loved them. She called them, “B-B’s” and I opted for a banana & milk for her breakfast—and as an easy late after dinner snack.

These yellow gems come into our household green. We all love greener, firm bananas so when they begin to ripen—-brown spots appear & that’s my cue to chop the ends off, peel the bananas, and freeze them in small chunks for my morning and/or post-workout smoothies. They help take smoothies from creamy to decadent. Frozen bananas can be used for many different at-home treats and/or if you are up late looking for a sweet, savory snack—a bag of frozen banana bites just might do the trick! I think I enjoyed three frozen bananas last night.

These frozen treats are easy to prepare. If you don’t want to wait until bananas ripen on your counter tops, buy them extra ripe from the store. Then process them as below for freezing:

  • Chop the ends off
  • Peel the bananas
  • Cut in bite sized piecese
  • Freeze them in bite sized pieces and/or chunks

Don’t forget to make decadent deserts with these bananas like the Banana Ice-Cream Recipe.

  1. We also use frozen bananas for a wide variety of things. One of our favorite uses is homemade fruit-sweetened ice cream. Yum!
