Several people a week stop me to ask about my (Litsa) green juices, exercise routines, and daily diet in general. It’s always interesting to see where the conversation leads. Additionally, it’s rewarding to hear of others success stories as friends and strangers alike embrace clean eating and foods that not only nourish their insides but radiate people on the outside.

Nutrition can act as a double-duty diet if you eat the right foods. Recently, I was reminded of three powerhouses: Avocado, Oatmeal, and Grapefruit after reading Joy Bauer’s column in Woman’s Day (May 2015).

Avocados: Eating just one avocado a day is said to “lower bad cholesterol & triglycerides”—and it packs on about 13 grams of fiber which helps you feel FULL longer. Eat avocados raw. Toss them in smoothies. Make avocado fries with them. Or use them as a spread on sandwiches instead of mayo—-and guacamole!?! The use of an avocado is endless.

Oatmeal: Oatmeal contains soluble fiber which helps keep blood sugar in check. It’s perfect for helping your skin feel smooth. Add it to trail mix cookies or eat Refrigerated Oatmeal in a jar—-once a day does it all!

Grapefruit: Grapefruit is an excellent source of potassium. Who wouldn’t want to reduce water retention or bloating? Juice it and drink it with other fruits/vegetables. This vitamin C loading fruit can be diced up in salad or eaten in a fruit salad.

With spring in full-swing, it’s a great time to include as many fruits and vegetables in our diets as we digest other powerhouses like oatmeal. Although there are many fruits that are in season this spring, don’t forget that each is its own powerhouse.

Eat a rainbow of double-duty diet foods like avocados and grapefruits!
