The cleaning list is endless in our household. With pets and children, there is always something to clean. It seems as if I’m (Litsa) on repeat many days and nights reminding my daughter that the bathroom sink is full of germs. She’s even started cleaning it herself in order to say, “I just cleaned it.”
Although we clean the bathroom sink daily, “it’s the germiest spot in the house, compared to the bathroom faucet handle, kitchen countertops, drawer pulls, and common-area doorknobs. That’s because after the sink is used for activities like washing hands and brushing teeth, which remove bacteria from the body, pathogens often stay put rather than rinsing down the drain. Plus the wet environment promotes germ growth.”
These few sentences published in May’s Family Circle Magazine magnified my exact sentiments of why we need to strive to keep our hands and mouth away from the bathroom sink after washing face, hands, and/or brushing teeth. Additionally, it reiterates my own cleaning habits to make sure to wipe out the sink with bleach as often as possible to help prevent the spread of bacteria.
Quickly wiping out the sink with disinfectant wipes and/or spraying the sink down with bleach (and rinsing it with warm water) will help keep the germs at bay. However, it is important to clean the sink as often as possible. It only takes a few minutes.
Although your spring cleaning list may never find an ending point, re-clean the sink daily. Then, repeat.
Cleanliness promotes healthy living.
Thank You Family Circle for publishing information that is relevant to our daily lives.
