My most recent find for try something new in the produce section has been turnip greens! A couple of years ago we tried turnips but the greens were not attached. The greens on turnips are edible just like beet greens. Turnip greens are a good source of Vitamin A, Calcium and Iron. Turnip greens are most often served as a southern side dish. Usually the greens are boiled or sauteed.
How did I eat my turnip greens? Well I juiced them! The grocery store was out of swiss chard so I needed another green for my weekly juice. I figured I would give turnip greens a try. They juiced really well! I also tried turnip greens raw just to see what they tasted like. Turnip greens are similar to collard greens. They are a bit bitter tasting but I have read that the bitterness can be cooked out. I will say that my juice is a little more bitter than normal but it is tolerable!
Have you tried turnip greens before? They are available mostly from October to February.
