Even when my brain is filled with information about superfoods and their power…….even when I have already embraced keeping superfoods in my diet…….even when I eat chia seeds almost daily, I (Litsa) still love to read about their POWER over and over again.
Sam’s Healthy Living Made Simple arrived in my mailbox with this information about chia seeds: “Each 3-tablespoon serving of chia seeds contains just 160 calories and is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Add to that chia’s 5 grams of protein, 12 grams of fiber, 20 percent of your daily value of calcium and iron, 10 percent, of your daily value of vitamin A, and 8 percent of the daily recommended dose of vitamin C, and you’ll find it easy to include a serving with every meal.”
The article went on to say, ” Studies suggest that eating chia slows down how quickly our bodies convert carbohydrates into simple sugars, making the seed a perfect meal add-in for diabetics. The seeds can also assist with overeating issues—chia helps you feel fuller longer, while blocking a small amount of calorie absorption due to its gelling tendency within the GI tract.”
Chia helps our bodies stay hydrated. It’s a great choice for those of us that love to remain active both indoors and outdoors. Add it to your cereal. Make Homemade Chia Jam. Toss chia seeds in your salads.
Why wouldn’t you when chia seeds contain more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon, establishing the seed as a KING of heart-healthy food!?!

I love chai seeds and use them a lot, but I didn’t know they were good for diabetics because of the slow conversion of carbs to sugar. That’s just another notch in their belt for me!
