For years I have subscribed to the Sunday paper in order to receive coupons and sales ads. As my families eating habits have changed, I have discovered that I am using less and less coupons. We are eating a more whole food diet which eliminates many of the manufacturers coupons. The other change that has occurred is the use of digital coupons and savings apps.
When Kroger doubled coupons, I preferred paper coupons over digital coupons since digital coupons don’t double. However, now that there is no difference, it is much easier to use digital coupons. I also use savings apps like Checkout51, Ibotta and Berry Cart. These apps are so easy to use! Basically you buy the item listed on the app, scan your receipt and then when you reach payout get a check in the mail or paypal deposit. Savingstar is another savings program I use and they have a fresh produce item each week!
I found that the price I was paying for the Sunday paper was not being recouped in the number of manufactures coupons I was redeeming. Also, a free paper that is delivered to my mailbox each week started carrying the Smartsource insert! In addition to that, I have a friend at work that will bring me her coupon inserts sometimes. So really cancelling my Sunday paper subscription will not haveĀ a huge impact on my savings.
If you are a current newspaper subscriber just for the coupons, you might want to reassess. Is it worth paying for the paper? Are you using enough coupons to continue paying?
If you use savings apps, are there new ones I don’t know about yet? Pleas share!
