I am happy to report that several of our herb plants have survived the winter! I am actually surprised that so many of them are coming back since we had a very cold winter here in Central Virginia.
I have chives popping up among the garlic I planted last fall. I am surprised the chives are doing so well. They didn’t grow very well last summer bust seem to be coming back strong this spring.
My oregano is growing back in two spots! It’s thriving in this herb pot I had on my deck last year. You can see I have a bit of work to do to get the soil ready for the herb seedlings I have! Oregano is also in the garden underneath the rosemary bush. Both the oregano and the rosemary in the garden are also coming back.
May sage bush is also starting to bud! I planted this sage bush three years ago and it seems to come back each spring without fail. I also have a chocolate mint plant that is going on it’s third season!
When you are at the end of your growing season, don’t pull out all of your herbs! I let mine go through the winter to see if they will come back in the spring. If only the vegetables would grow back each year without replanting!
