Seven years ago when my husband and I (Litsa) bought our home, we were busy enjoying life—glasses of wine with friends…gathering amidst friends/family celebrating…
At that point in our life, I wanted plenty of wine at home to drink and serve to others in our home. When the kitchen was getting a makeover, we gutted most of the kitchen. The front window needed a focal point. Thus, I sketched out wine cabinets and cubbies for cookbooks. My husband built many wine cubbies to suit my request!?!
Fast forward that to a busy life with a 5.5 year old….it actually happened around age one…
Little by little, I found myself placing items besides wine in the cubbies in the kitchen. First, it was to keep little tools and items out of the reach of tiny hands (i.e. scissors, permanent markers, paints, etc.). Then, it was to keep craft supplies close by where we often found ourselves working during the day (a.k.a. Mommy & Me Crafts). Eventually, the entire wine cubbie wall was a catch all for all things crafts, projects, etc.
For the most part, I LOVE these repurposed wine cubbies because they keep items we need close by without having to dig for them. Additionally, the items we store are at eye level, organized, and kept where we work on crafts, projects for school, journal, etc. When the cubbies get disorganized and/or too full, I pull everything out and reorganize.
Our wine cubicles were never meant to house art supplies and writing tools but when life changes, it is easier to embrace changes and recreate spaces in our home for added comfort!
Have you found a place or space in your home that you’ve repurposed for your family?
