Melon seeds

What happens when a melon rots in your garden? In some instances, you will have volunteer melon plants!

We have had a ton of rain this summer in central Virginia. Like close to 25″ of rain since June. Our muskmelon’s rotted in the garden due to the wet conditions. I didn’t think much of it until last week. During my usual garden check, I discovered the muskmelon seeds had produced little seedlings!

So here we are September 1st and I have muskmelons seedlings. Of course there will not be time for these plants to produce fruit before the first frost sets in. But I found it interesting to see!

How is your garden doing? Any new crops coming in?
