Our family (Litsa’s) primarily eats at home seven days a week unless we are traveling——-and/or have scheduled a day for eating out (which is rare). However, upon returning from my six week vacation in Greece, I needed to reorganize menu planning and grocery shopping (with jet lag). Thus, we visited our new Cracker Barrel restaurant/store for an easy meal while falling back into routines. Additionally, we were busy shelling fresh peas from my mother-in-law’s garden….and I wanted to have relish on hand for pea nights….So we returned to Cracker Barrel for relish!

If you like fresh veggies like we do, you’ll want to try this relish—Sweet Pepper & Apple Relish! It’s our Try Something New for the week! WE love my mother-in-law’s homemade chow-chow relish but opted to try Cracker Barrel’s brand of Sweet Pepper & Apple Relish too.

It’s sweet and delightful with peas and just as a side—a small portion goes a long way since the sweetness lingers. But my daughter and I both, can eat it by the spoonful. I’m left with more of the sweet flavor from the peppers rather than an apple tasting though. However, it’s not unpleasant at all. It takes fresh peas to a decadent level—and if you enjoy canning, you’ll love to know that the ingredient list is simple enough to gather up to can a batch of this tasty relish!

Sweet Pepper & Apple Relish: Red peppers, sugar, onion, water, vinegar, dextrose, apples, salt, & spices

When apple season arrives, this relish may just be what you are looking to recreate for fall/winter!

Have you tried anything new this week?
