Don’t get burned this season! Fill your pail with all the right sunscreen before heading out to the park, the festivals, the ball field and/or the pool or beach! Remember to shield your scalp, ears, lips, and feet too! Think about the senses before heading out the door—you want your excitement to be just as grand when you return home. No whining allowed if you didn’t read the fine print!
As a lover of the sun, I always make sure that my cabinets are full of sunscreen for all occasions. But it’s time to really pay attention and bring the sunscreens along in my purse. One bottle greets us by the back door to remind us to lather up. However, when I picked up my current summer issue of Fitness magazine I was surprised that labels are changing. Fitness notes, “That labels on sunscreen bottles have changed this year because of new FDA rules that make them easier to understand.” Here’s what they said:
Broad Spectrum: The product protects against sunburn-causing UVB rays as well as UVA rays, which penetrate deeper into the skin and accelerate the signs of aging (at 38, I don’t want those rays!!!).
Skin Cancer/Skin Aging Alert: Products with an SPF of 14 or lower or formulas that don’t pass the broad-spectrum test will be required to carry a warning that they have been shown to help prevent sunburn only, not skin cancer or signs of aging.
Water Resistant: The SPF has been tested and shown to be effective for up to 40 to 80 minutes (read labels) while you swim or sweat.
You will not see “sunblock” on the label. Nothing blocks the sun’s rays! Thus, look for the key word SUNSCREEN for your true protection identity! You will also not see “waterproof” this year! Nothing is completely waterproof but products can be WATER RESISTANT!
Enjoy your time outdoors—It truly is SUN-sational with the right SUNSCREEN! I love the one sunscreen product that also gives back to others! Read about it HERE!
