Valeri Gorbachev’s book, What’s the Big Idea, Molly? arrived in our mailbox this week for my (Litsa’s) daughter (who is now two months shy of turning five)!! We’ve already read it three different times——and what a great book it is! It ties in words of poetry for National Poetry Month! Additionally, it shows friends working together on one BIG idea! And it incorporates the FOUR seasons!
Now, we’ve all awaited Spring’s arrival. Gardens are underway….flowers are blooming, trees are changing, bugs are present, and more! Thus, it’s a great opportunity to explore the outdoors with your children. Then, take time to read this well written book and discuss the friends’ illustrations and Molly’s idea! Over the course of the season or on rainy spring days, take time to create your own seasonal booklet of trees. Add photographs, poems and more!
Creating a book together at home with your family is just about the easiest activity—–begin with paper, pencils, crayons—add extras as time allows. Remember to start with Molly’s idea of working together and allow your seasonal book of illustrations, poems, and photographs to tell your family’s story!
