Kroger & Harris Teeter Shopping Trip

It’s been a few weeks since I have posted about my grocery shopping trips. I have been shopping but mostly just for essentials like dairy, bread, produce and meat. Yesterday I headed out for some major coupon shopping since both Kroger and Harris Teeter had some good deals.

Harris Teeter Shopping

Harris Teeter is running Super Double coupons- which means coupons up to $1.98 will double (ends 5/3/11). With gas prices so high, I only make one trip to town a week. This meant only one trip to Harris Teeter and they only accept 20 double coupons per day. This meant I had to prioritize and get items my family would use- not just free items.

First priority was dog food! I ended up with (3) 20 lb. bags of Purina for $5.82 a bag after double coupons and sale. Without the sale or coupons the dog food would have cost $50!

(2) Homestyle Mac & Cheese
(1) Friskies Cat Food
(1) Tidy Cat Litter
(3) Johnsonville Sausage (had $1/1 coupon from House Party making it $1.99 ea.)
(2) Hillshire Farm Turkey Sausage ($1 ea. facebook eVic offer)
(2) Hot Dog Buns ($0.75 facebook eVic offer)
(4) Crystal Light
(2) Quaker Granola Bars
(1) Hungry Jack Pancake Mix (no coupon)
(2) HT Freezer Bags (no coupon)
(1) Wheat Thins Stix
(3) Dole Canned Pineapple
(2) Log Cabin All Natural Syrup (On sale for $2.49- just $0.49 ea. after double coupon!)
(3) Old El Paso Tortillas (used $0.60/3 Old El Paso coupon)
(3) Old El Paso Taco Seasoning (usedĀ $0.60/3 Old El Paso coupon)

Total Spent: $54.90
Total Saved: $104.97 or 66%

Kroger Shopping Trip

Kroger Shopping Trip

I spent a long time at Kroger scoping out the unadvertised Mega Event deals. I also bought a lot! We needed everything from produce to meat and milk.I bought too much to list everything out but all of the coupon matchups are on theĀ Kroger Deals or Kroger Unadvertised Deals pages.

I did end up buying a $15 pork shoulder. It was on sale for $1.87/lb. and will provide MANY meals for us. I will slow cook the roast this weekend and then freeze some of the meat for future use. Great for pulled pork sandwiches or carnitas!

Total Spent: $85.48
Total Saved: $99.73 or 54%

I was pleased with both of my shopping trips! No, you will not see just the free items or low totals with my shopping trips. Since the stores are about a 40 minute drive for me, I do not make trips for a small amount of items.

How is your shopping going? Score any good deals?

  1. Great shopping trips! The freebie trips are fun but this is definitely more realistic and really helps people learn how to save!!

  2. Great job! I am all about cooking meat once and being able to use it for several meals. Saves so much time!
